Work by Paul Uwe Dreyer

Paul Uwe Dreyer

Paul Uwe Dreyer (1939–2008) taught for over three decades as a Professor of Painting at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and was its Rector for several years. The stylistics of his oeuvre can be assigned to concrete-constructive art. However, numerous pictorial motifs and color atmospheric elements go back to sources other than those traditionally associated with this style. As the first retrospective after the artist’s death, the exhibition takes a look at his entire oeuvre. On the basis of a chronological presentation of the work, it shows the extraordinary stringency of the development of the motif, which ranges from architectural, figurative and ornamental abbreviations to “signets” and “emblems” through to complex spatial penetrations and spatial entanglements.
